BUILDING BRIDGES

November 28, 2007
Dear Sheriff Richard D. Roth:

I am writing on behalf of the Coral Shores High School Mock Trial
team. Our academic team has registered to participate in the annual
state mock trial competition to be hosted in Orlando this spring. In the
past we have traveled to the state competitions with generous support
from your department. In previous years our students received the
distinction of best overall attorney and best witness. This is an
extremely valuable law-related activity involving students from different
grade levels. Our team is responsible for expenses related to hotels
and transportation. Any assistance which your department could give
this year would be sincerely appreciated. If you have any questions
about the competition I can be reached at 853-3222 ext. 56353. I hope
to hear from you in the near future. J..{ h ~ L

During November, we were thrilled to sign new Take Stock In Children contracts with 74
handpicked Monroe County middle and high school students! With your support, since
we began eight years ago, we have provided "Scholarships, Mentors, and Hope" to 448
students.
Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty through education----one child at a time--
and we're doing it! Our unique mentoring and scholarship program starts at 7th grade
and continues through graduation from college. All qualifying Monroe County middle
and high school students from Jow-income families having the desire, motivation, and
ability to go to college are automatically qualified and are admitted to our program.
Take Stock In Children is the only student-mentoring program that combines successful
mentoring with a fully paid scholarship that pays all required student fees and tuition for
four years. Your contribution of $3,000 this year will enable one more Monroe County
student to attend college. Through the years, our local leadership donors-Edward
Knight, John Padget, Sheriff Rick Roth, the Rodel Foundation, the Keys Children's
Foundation, and two new anonymous donors in 2007-participate in varying degrees to
match your individual contributions. All local monies raised continue to be matched by
the state legislature. OUR PHILOSOPHY OF "DOUBLE-MATCHING" MEANS WE
REALIZE $4 FOR EVERY $1 THAT YOU CONTRIBUTE. AND, AS ALWAYS, 100% OF
YOUR CONTRIBUTION GOES TO OUR CHILDREN AND NONE TO
ADMINISTRATIVE OR OTHER COSTS.
Many of our contributors have a tradition of financing one or more students every year,
currently at the rate of $3,000 per student. But, we remind you that all contributions are
double-matched, so all donations are welcome. We solicit your support only once a
year. We don't do fund-raisers, events, or dinners. We send you this one letter inviting
