A RESOLUTION BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS EXPRESSING THE COUNTY'S COMMITMENT TO
ENTER INTO A CONSERVATION EASEMENT AT THE KEY WEST
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AS PART OF THE RUNWAY SAFETY
AREA CONSTRUCTION PROJECT TO SATISFY SOUTH FLORIDA
WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT PERMIT REQUIREMENTS.
WHEREAS, the Key West International Airport lacks an appropriate Runway Safety
Area at both ends of the airports runway; and
WHEREAS, Momoe County is committed to upgrading and building appropriate
Runway Safety Areas; and
WHEREAS, Momoe County has applied for and the Federal Aviation Administration
has approved over 12 million dollars in grant funding for purposes of upgrading and constructing
the Runway Safety Areas; and
WHEREAS, Key West International Airport is bordered by environmentally sensitive
wetlands; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of the Runway Safety Area construction project Momoe
County has applied for a permit with the South Florida Water Management District; and
WHEREAS, as the County is proposing an on-site mitigation plan as a condition of the
South Florida Water Management District permit which requires the County to enter into a
conservation easement or other equivalent document pursuant to Florida Statute section 704.06,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that at such time as the
dimensions and legal description can be ascertained for the conservation easement area required
by the South Florida Water Management District permit for the Runway Safety Area
construction project, the County will execute said conservation easement as a condition of the
permit.
