WHEREAS, the missions of Sanctuary Friends Foundation of the Florida Keys are to support
the Florida Keys National Marina Sanctuary in the preservation, restoration, and sustainable use
of our coral reef and marine ecosystems, and to promote the development of community support
and the advancement of public scientific research; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary can use all the help it can get in
fulfilling its mission to protect, preserve and restore the marine environment of the sanctuary; and
WHEREAS, "REEF WEEK" is expected to bring thousands of people together at numerous
events throughout the Keys for a common cause which will leverage their energy and resources
into a more effective effort to protect preserve and restore the marine environment of the Florida
Keys National Marine Sanctuary; and
WHEREAS, the marine resources of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary are
vitally important to Monroe County's economy and quality of life, and raising community
awareness and national awareness will help preserve, protect these resources so that our visitors
and residents alike can enjoy boating, diving, and fishing that contribute so much to our
communities; now therefore,
COUNTY,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
THAT:
1. Aril 6 to A ril 13 o the ear 2009 is hereby declared "REEF Week" and that Monroe
County Government will support "REEF Week".
2. The Monroe County Commission encourages the community to participate in these
events.
