KOLHAGE MON\~JJb~&:ijJJ~ V. Bradley-Whitlock, passed away on February 19, 2000, at the age of 96; d ~~TY.t'~.... an WHEREAS, Ruby V. Bradley-Whitlock was a lifetime resident of Key West, and loved visiting Texas where she would often ride Harley Motorcycles and horses; and WHEREAS, Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church of Key West, the Key West Baptist Temple, the Eastern Star, AARP, the Audubon Society and Up with Hope and Down with Dope; and WHEREAS, Ruby's father-in-law, Guy Morrell Bradley, a game warden on the mainland, was shot and killed by plume hunters on July 8, 1905. His death brought national attention to the decimation of Florida's beautiful water birds which were then being slaughtered for the sake of fashion; and WHEREAS, Guy's death sparked the rapid growth of the Audubon movement in America which later was instrumental in gaining the passage of bird protection laws that ended the plume trade; and WHEREAS, Mayor Emeritus Wilhelmina Harvey, a cousin of Ruby's, remembers Ruby as having so much energy, and how wonderful she was; and WHEREAS, Ruby V. Bradley-Whitlock leaves many, many loving family members and many friends to cherish her memory; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning for the passing of the late Ruby V. Bradley-Whitlock, a great and warm-hearted woman. Section 2. The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this Resolution to her beloved family to express the Board's sorrow. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 15th day of March, 2000. Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
