Resolution 202-2001 Commissioner Nora Williams RESOLUTION NO. 202 -2001 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE VIOLET KEMP ALBURY AND WILLIAM "SPUD" ALBURY WHEREAS, William .Spud" Albury, passed away on November 12,2000; and WHEREAS, shortly thereafter on December 22, 2000, his wife Violet Kemp Albury, passed away; and WHEREAS, they were both born and raised in the Keys of pioneering families; and WHEREAS, the Board desires to recognize the late Alburys for their public service and dedication to the. community, as evidenced by the attached biographies; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning for the passing of the late William Spud Albury and the late Violet Kemp Albury. Section 2. The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this Resolution to the Albury family to express the Board's sorrow. She passed away December 22, 2000, Graduated (192<)} from Key West High School. However, she auended Mary Jmmaculate Convent for a time where she was a schoolmate of former Monme County Commissioner Wilhehnina Harvey. Violet wanted to be a tcacher but one ofthc requirements for tea(;bers in Key WeSl was tbat they spend 8 year in 'the wilds' up-lhe>-Keys She movt:d 10 lslamorada and taught at the lslamorada School. Dwlng this time she met and married a local, William J. "Spud" Albury, And never returned to Key West. They eventually settled in Tavernier where she remained the rest ofber life. Tbey bore one child, Shirley Faye (Albl11'y.) Born July 5, 1913 in Key West, Florida "Spud" passed away November 12,2000. "Spud" was raised OD tbe family rann on Plantation Key, He attended school in Key West and Miami but bad to quit in the eleventh grade to go to work aDd help the family. He eventually obtained his CEO. He met and manied Violet Kemp - a scbool teacher at 1slamurada School. They bore one child, Shirley I'aye (Albury.) EventuaUy they settled in TlIVemier and remained there the rest of his We. "Spud .. worked for Alonzo Cothron and others but in 1971 became the toll collector at Card Sound He remained in that position until his -retirement in 1983.
