AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval to salvage five County owned RVs.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Due to concerns of formaldehyde possibly existing in the RVs and legal
exposure to the County, salvaging the RVs is the best option. The salvage fee for each RV is $525. It
has been confirmed that FEMA will reimburse the County for this expense.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
On May 16, 2006 the BOCC authorized the purchase
of five RVs for essential employees who still required emergency housing and the Conch Key Fire
Department for day to day operations due to damages sustained from Hurricane Wilma. On June 21,
2006 the BOCC approved the ratification of lease agreements between Monroe County and affected
employees for use of the RVs as temporary housing. The purchase price of the five RVs was
reimbursed to the County by FEMA as part of hurricane related expenses with the understanding that
when the RVs were no longer in use and relinquished back to the county FEMA would receive the
proceeds from their sale.
