PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: TOTAL COST: COST TO COUNTY: BUDGETED: Yes No SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTH Year APPROVED BY: County Atty OMB/Purchasing Risk Management DOCUMENTATION: Included XX Not Required DISPOSITION: AGENDA ITEM # Revised 2/05 Bapor'g proclamation AMERICAN RED CROSS RECOGNITION WHEREAS, the American Red Cross has been serving the Keys since 1917; and WHEREAS, in fiscal year 2007, the American Red Cross of Monroe County assisted 33 families affected by disastrous single-family home fares, providing food, clothing, and shelter; and WHEREAS, the Upper Keys and Lower Keys branch offices of the American Red Cross reached 1,230 individuals with community disaster education materials to help them better prepare for all types of hazards; and WHEREAS, a total of 84 volunteer twining classes were provided for volunteers to respond to these disasters; and WHEREAS, Military family services were provided to 24 local military service families; and WHEREAS, courses and presentations on Red Cross provision of International Ser-7ces reached 292 people in 2007; and WHEREAS, lifesaving CPR, First Aid, and Pet CPR courses were conducted 296 times, and trained 1,595 people; and WHEREAS, aquatics and water safety programs totaled 43 courses and 354 people received certifications; and WIIEREAS, throughout the Keys, 208 volunteers provided 1,260 hours of service; and Wf-IEREAS, June 0 is the beginning of hurricane season; the Red Cross is standing by to help residents with post -storm recovery needs in the event of a land -falling hurricane affecting the Keys; By the power invested in the Mayor of Monroe County, Florida. 1, Mario Di Gennaro, hereby recognize the American Red Cross as a very important member of the community service organizations always standing by to help our in emergencies and community disaster events. Mere is some data about the services we provided during our last fiscal year, which ended June 30. Additionally, the American Red Cross spent $5 million in the Keys assisting families after Hurricane Wilma in 2007. In fiscal year 2007, the American Red Cross in Monroe County assisted 33 families affected by disasters single-family fires, ff"e provided food, clothing and shelterllodging. The Upper Keys and Lower Keys branch offices reached 1,230 individuals with comm unity disaster educ materials, to help them better prepare far all types of hazards.
