Funding tied to Hurricane Georges' and Irene . Purpose to build up breakwater to pre disaster height (4 Ft.) . Use - For a mobile training lab to provide for library electronic resource training to County employees, organizations, clubs, and Community Centers . Grant will finance 12 wireless laptops with server for exportable training throughout Monroe County . Grant fosters leadership, innovation, and lifetime learning . Grant purpose is to utilize projects with technology to bring information to people in innovative ways and to ensure library services are accessible to those having difficulty in using the libraries in remote or rural locations . Train the trainer concept will be utilized by having designated library personnel trained in advance to deliver various services and programs associated with the grant . Monroe County was one of only 90 projects funded . Program will be become operational in 2001 upon procurement of hardware/software and County employee training Dec 15 00 05:25p MonroeCo Comm Services (305l 292-4417 Keys libraries are going. on the road Federal grant to help finance laptop compu~ers Thanks to a $56,192 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Monroe County Library System will be taking a mobile computer training lab on the road to provide library-electron- ic resource training to organiza- tions, clubs and community cen- ters. Librarians will benefit from training workshops geared (0 polish their computer and presentation skills. " The Institute of Museum and Library Services is a federal gram-making agency that fos- ters leadership, innovation and a lif~time of learning by support- ing museums and libraries.
