TOTAL COST: Cost to County: BUDGETED: Yes No APPROVED BY: County Attorney X OM B/Purchasing Risk Management DIVISION DIRECTO~ DOCUMENTATION: Inclu ed X To Follow Not required AGENDA ITEM # ( ..G3 Board of County Commissioners ORDINANCE NO - 2001 AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ABOLISHING THE DIVISION OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND CREATING A NEW DIVISION OF EMERGENCY SERVICES CONTAINING THE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT, THE DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, AND THE EMS SECTION; AND MERGING THE FIRE RESCUE DEPARTMENT AND FIRE MARSHAL DEPARTMENT INTO ONE DEPARTMENT ENTITLED THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE PROTECTION; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION INTO THE MONROE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. The existing Division of Public Safety is hereby abolished. A new division entitled the Division of Emergency Services is hereby created. The new Division contains the following departments and section: a) The Emergency Communications Department; b) The Emergency Management Department; and c) The EMS Section. Section 2. The Fire Rescue Department and the Fire Marshal Department, previously within the former Public Safety Division, are hereby merged into one department entitled the Fire Protection Department. Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or provision of this ordinance is held invalid, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected by such invalidity. Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. Section 5. The proviSions of this ordinance shall be included and incorporated in the Code of Ordinances of the County of Monroe, Florida, as an addition or amendment thereto, and shall be appropriately renumbered to conform to the uniform numbering system of the Code. Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon receipt of official notice from the Office of the Secretary of State of the State of Florida that this ordinance has been filed with said Office.
