AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to dissolve six dormant committees and remove from the
list of Commissioners' Appointments.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Affordable Housing Planner Oversight Committee, Marathon Airport
Ad Hoc Committee, Marathon Airport Master Plan Advisory Committee, Monroe County Community
Health Initiative Task Force and the TDC Opening of Cuba Committee are all inactive committees.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: Each year a commissioner is appointed to serve on
these committees.

Affordable Housing Planner Oversight Committee - This committee was added to the commissioners'
appointments list in 2002. There is no record of this committee ever meeting.
Marathon Airport Ad Hoc Committee - This committee was adopted by BOCC motion in 1995. It has
not met in several years. The Airports Senior Director, Peter Horton, and Marathon Airport Manager,
Reggie Paros, agree that there is no need to keep this committee open. It can be re-established if
needed at a later date.
Marathon Airport Master Plan Advisory Committee - This committee was adopted by BOCC motion
in March 2001 as the Air Service Committee. It was later renamed in July 2001. The committee
hasn't met in years since the Master Plan was adopted in 2002. The terms of the membership have all
expired since then as well and most of the people who served on the committee are gone. Airports
Senior Director, Peter Horton, and Marathon Airport Manager, Reggie Paros, agree that there is no
need to keep this committee open. It can be re-established if needed at a later date.
Monroe County Community Health Initiative Task Force - This committee was added to the
commissioners' appointments list in January 2002 at the request of the Health Council of South
Florida. On August 9,2002 they prepared the Community Health Perspectives Report and on April 29,
2003 the task force completed the Final Recommendations and Action Plan to Improve Health Care
Delivery in Monroe County. The Health Council has confirmed that the task force has not met since
the completion of this Action Plan.
TDC Opening of Cuba Committee - This committee met on March 9, 1999 for the first time. This
committee was initiated by the Tourist Development Council to identify the potential impacts of the
opening of Cuba and to position our marketing strategy to the opening. As per Lynda Stuart of the
TDC this committee sunset after the publication of their report in August 2000.
