Agenda Item Wording: Approval to purchase No Name Key property (RE #108490-000100) for
conservation.
Item Background: This acquisition is proposed to protect natural resources and provide mitigation
land in support of the Big Pine Key Habitat Conservation Plan. The subject property is a 13-acre
undeveloped parcel on No Name Key zoned Native Area and designated Tier 1. The property consists
of mostly mangrove vegetation with some transitional wetlands, beach berm, and hammock according
to mapping by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. There is no vehicular access to the
property. Since the property is being purchased for conservation and is bordered by federal
conservation land on the south and west, the typical standards for access will be waived in this
transaction.
The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used for this transaction. The purchase price
and estimated closing costs are listed in the agenda packet spreadsheet.
Advisory Committee Action: On December 1, 2008 the Committee voted 5/0 to approve this
acquisition.
Previous Governing Board Action: Sitting as the BOCC, the Board approved the Habitat
Conservation Plan on March 19, 2003.
Contract/Agreement Changes: Waive access requirements.
