A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUN1Y COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUN1Y, FLORIDA, DECLARING MONROE COUN1Y'S OPEN AND ACCEPTING
USE OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE.
WHEREAS, Monroe County has a substantial segment of its population which is bilingual or
speaks Spanish only; and
WHEREAS, in recent months, neighboring communities have had some controversy over the
use of Spanish in official transactions; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County is multi-cultural and encourages all of its officers to facilitate
Spanish speakers in their interactions with governmental entities;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUN1Y COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUN1Y, FLORIDA:
Section 1.
The use of Spanish in Monroe County is both welcomed and accepted and
Monroe County is "user friendly" to Spanish speaking individuals and hereby promulgates this
Resolution for the purpose of demonstrating its open and accepting use of the Spanish language in
all of its facets of government.
Section 2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of
this Resolution to: Arturo Espinola, Latin Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 629, Key West, Florida
33040.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida,
at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 18th day of July, 2001.
