A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners convened at
10:00 A.M., on the above date at the Marathon Government Center. Present and answering to
roll call were Commissioner Charles "Sonny" McCoy, Commissioner Murray Nelson,
Commissioner Dixie Spehar, Commissioner Nora Williams, and Mayor George Neugent. Also
present were James Roberts, County Administrator; James T. Hendrick, County Attorney; Danny
L. Kolhage, Clerk; Isabel C. DeSantis, Deputy Clerk; County Staff, members of the press and
radio; and the general public.
ADDITIONS, CORRECTIONS, AND DELETIONS
There were no Additions, Corrections, or Deletions made to the Agenda
PRESENTATION, OVERVIEW, AND BUDGET MESSAGE FOR THE
PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR 2002 BUDGET
County Administrator, James Roberts directed the Board to the Budget Detail and Budget
Summary books and thereby made a presentation to the Board concerning the proposed Fiscal
Year 2002 budget.
The Board discussed specific areas of the proposed Fiscal Year 2002 budget and the
Monroe County Regional Park System.
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Sheila Barker, Director of Administrative Services addressed the Board. After discussion,
motion was made by Commissioner Williams and seconded by Commissioner Spehar to adopt the
following Resolution electing to increase the Local Communications Services Tax Conversion
Rate to minimize fiscal impact to the County due to passage of Communications Services Tax
Simplification Law; electing to increase the total rate for the local communications services tax by
0.24 percent in lieu of imposing permit fees on communications service providers desiring to
occupy County right-of-way; Directing the Clerk to transmit this Resolution to State of Florida
Department of Revenue; Providing for severability; Providing for an effective date. Motion
carried unanimously.
