A Special Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners convened at
10:00 A.M., at the Marathon Government Center. Present and answering to roll call were
Commissioner Heather Carruthers, Commissioner Kim Wigington, and Mayor Sylvia Murphy.
Commissioner George Neugent was absent. Also present at the meeting were Roman Gastesi,
County Administrator; Debbie Frederick, Assistant County Administrator; Suzanne Hutton,
County Attorney; Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; County Staff, members of the press and radio; and
the general public.
SPECIAL MEETING
Suzanne Hutton, County Attorney requested that the Board schedule an Attorney-Client
Closed Session in the matter of Monroe County v. Priceline.com, et aI, 09-10004CY to be held at
the BOCC Special Meeting of July 13,2010 in Key West at 1:30 P.M. Motion was made by
Commissioner DiGennaro and seconded by Commissioner Wigington granting approval of the
request. Motion carried unanimously.
WORKSHOP
The Mayor advised that there were index cards available for members of the public to
write down their questions that would be provided to the appropriate participant for answering.
The Board discussed any and all changes that have occurred since our first workshop on
May 11, 20 I 0 regarding the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and its possible effect on the Florida
Keys.

Environmental Protection - South District Marathon Office; Sean Morton, NOAA _
Superintendent - Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary; Scott Donahue, NOAA Associate
Science Coordinator - Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary; Billy Causey, NOAA Regional
Director; Andrew Yan Chau, British Petroleum Public Information & Community Liaison
Officer; Harold Wheeler, Director - Florida Keys & Key West Tourist Development Council;
Andy Newman, representing Stuart Newman Associates, Inc. d/b/a Newman PR; Rick Ramsey,
Undersheriff - Monroe County Sheriffs Office; Jim Callahan, Chief - Monroe County Fire

Rescue; Tom Genovese, South Florida Water Management District; Captain Pete Conley USCG;
Key Note Speaker: State Representative Ron Saunders. Mayor Murphy introduced Dr. Scott
Harris, Branch Director of British Petroleum, Sector Key West and John Gallagher, ofP2S _
Qualified Community Responder Program.
Closing comments were made by members of the Commission. Mayor Murphy thanked
all of the participants.
There being no further business, the meeting of the Board of County Commissioners
adjourned.
