AGENDA ITEM WORDING: A special meeting of the Mayors of Monroe County to discuss
the division of the DEP $10 million for wastewater improvements provided for in the DCA
agreement. The meeting date will be Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Harvey
Government Center, 1200 Truman Avenue, Key West.
ITEM BACKGROUND: On Tuesday, August 31 S\ Mayor Murray Nelson's office received a
request to hold a meeting of the Mayors to discuss wastewater funding distribution. The purpose of this
meeting will be to hear a presentation by Commissioner McCoy, the County Wastewater Liaison, for a
recommended split ofDEP's $10 million and to have the Mayors come to an agreement on that
division. The Mayors then can take back that agreement to their respective commissions or councils for
ratification. This process will allow contracts for wastewater improvements to be entered into quickly
and allow elected officials to set policy for wastewater implementation in Monroe County.
