PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: ________________________________________________________________ STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: TOTAL COST: BUDGETED: _N/A_______________ Yes No COST TO COUNTY:SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODUCING:AMOUNT PER MTH___YEAR___ Yes No _ APPROVED BY: County Atty OMB/Purchasing _____ Risk Management ____ DOCUMENTATION: Included x Not Required_____ DISPOSITION:AGENDA ITEM #  Proclamation FIRE PREVENTION WEEK Oct 3-9, 2010 WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that tragically killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres; and WHEREAS, this event changed the way the firefighters and public officials thought about fire safety; and WHEREAS , The President of the United States has signed a proclamation pronouncing a national observance during that week every year since 1925; and WHEREAS, the County of Monroe is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our county; and WHEREAS, firefighters are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of structure fires and related injuries through fire prevention and public safety education; and WHEREAS , able to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire, especially in their homes; and WHEREAS , the 2010 Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live focuses on the importance of smoke alarms and encourages everyone to take the steps necessary to update and maintain their home smoke alarm protection; and THEREFORE, I Sylvia Murphy, Mayor of Monroe County, do hereby proclaim October 3-9, 2010 as Fire Prevention Week and I urge all the people of Monroe County to protect their homes and families by heeding the important safety messages of Fire Prevention Week 2010, and to support the many public safety fire and emergency services. Murrow award and four regional Murrow awards; and WHEREAS , US 1 Radio has set the standard for community radio in the Florida Keys, NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sylvia Murphy, by virtue of the power vested in me as Mayor of Monroe September 26, 2010 County, do hereby proclaim as US 1 RADIO DAY in the Florida Keys. th Dated this 15 day of September, 2010.
