Resolution 466-2010RESOLUTION NO. 466 - 2010 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, APPROVING A REQUEST FOR CHANGES TO ADMISSIONS AND OTHER FEES FOR PIGEON KEY. WHEREAS, on October 19, 1993, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County (BOCC) entered into a lease agreement with Pigeon Key Preservation Foundation, Inc. (Foundation); and WHEREAS, the lease, paragraph 14, requires changes by the Foundation in admission and program fee rates to be approved by the BOCC; and WHEREAS, the Foundation has requested approval of changes to fees; now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. The BOCC approves the fees to be charged by Pigeon Key Preservation Foundation, Inc. for admission to and services at Pigeon Key, Florida, as set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated herein. Section 2. This resolution shall be effective upon its adoption. Pigeon Key Foundation November 15, 2010 Marathon Community Theater Members Present: Jason Koler (Chair), Mike Puto (Vice Chair), Ben Daniels (Treasurer), Riet Steinmetz, Marjie Mearns, Carolyn Anthony, John Morrill and Executive Director Kelly McKinnon. Call to order at 5:15 pm by Jason Koler. Second by Mike Puto. Pigeon Key Art Fest Update Megan Jones & Kristin Artz: Swankey Events The Art Festival's coordinators, Megan Jones and Kristin Artz reported that artist applications are rolling in. Artists from previous years will be contacted personally. Marathon's Community Park reservation has been confirmed, Facebook and Twitter are running, musicians are confirmed the new logo has been selected, liquor permitting is in progress. New for the 17 Annual Art Show will be "The Art of Food," and a sushi roller, cake roller are booked and the search is on for an ice sculptor. Other confirmations include garbage and security. The Fire and Police Department's have been notified and Marathon's Park & Rec Director, Jimmy Schmidt, has explained the signage and electricity requirements. Swankey is currently seeking sponsors and patrons. Budweiser and Coca Cola have both committed to last year's donations. Artist submissions remain the main focus and the board will need to line up volunteers for the event. Executive Director Report Kelly McKinnon McKinnon's report began with the news of a generous donation. "A group came down from Ocean Reef and two guys called me to redo the entire kitchen," McKinnon said. "New tile, cabinets, tile .... they said they will knock it out top to bottom." He expects the work to be completed by the end of the year. McKinnon also said the $10,000 paint project for the paint foreman's house is about to begin. Old, rotting, termite -ridden wood will be replaced and the entire building will be repainted to historical values. The December 11 concert is nearly ready to go. Rachel and Ananda have secured numerous items for the raffle, the bands are booked, and McKinnon anticipates more than 400 people will visit the island in a single day. McKinnon's recommendation for rate increases was unanimously approved by the board. Upon BOCC approval, residents will pay $9 (up 50 cents) while non - residents will pay $12 (up $1). E IBIT - I Old Business Membership Drive information will be included in the new Art Fest sponsorship packages. New Business The Florida Keys Seabase has offered the PK Foundation a used Corinthian Catamaran. The vessel is US Coast Guard certified and while hold up to 49 passengers. It is also capable of navigating the shallow waters of the island's dock. Riet Steinmetz has suggested an ADK Pigeon Walk out to Pigeon Key to benefit the foundation. Everyone agreed the exposure would be good for the island. Jason Koler motioned for adjournment at 6:30 pm. Second by Mike Puto.
