12/01/1999 Town Hall Meeting 99/445 ~ MINUTES OF THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Town Hall Meeting Board of County Commissioners Wednesday, December 1, 1999 Key West, Florida A Town Hall Meeting of the Monroe County Board of County commissioners convened at 7:00 P.M., on the above date, in the Harvey Government Center at Historic Truman School. Present and answering to roll call were Commissioner Wilhelmina Harvey, Commissioner George Neugent, commissioner Mary Kay Reich, Commissioner Nora williams, and Mayor Shirley Freeman. Also present were Danny L. Kolhage, Clerk; James T. Hendrick, County Attorney; James Roberts, County Administrator; County Staff, members of the press and radio; and the general public. ~ TOWN HALL MEETING WITH CITIZENS IN MONROE COUNTY Joan Langley, of the Key West Pedestrian Action committee addressed the Board concerning the need for a pedestrian walkway on Palm Avenue. Jim Malcolm addressed the Board concerning Palm Avenue, a request for bike lanes on First Street and Bertha Avenue, the bike path and safety improvements for Higgs Beach, location of the Division of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle trailer near the bike path on US1 Stock Island, and curb cuts and ADA compliance issues concerning major road construction projects. Mr. Roberts advised the Board that staff would review some of the questions raised concerning County maintained roads in the city of Key West and would communicate with Ms. Langley. Ty Symroski, representing the Key West Planning Department addressed the Board and thanked them for their cooperation on acquisition of the Fairgrounds affordable housing site. cindy Cameron addressed the Board concerning the Vacation Rental Ordinance. ,--- Katha Sheehan addressed the Board concerning chickens in the City of Key West. -- 99/446 Jim Cameron, Don Pollock, and Mark Andre addressed the Board concerning the Vacation Rental Ordinance. Jim Malcolm addressed the Board a second time concerning road and pedestrian safety, Astro City, and Higgs Beach. Mark Andre addressed the Board a second time concerning Affordable Housing. Michelle Wisnewski addressed the Board and concerning Palm Avenue and wheelchair access, a walkway between West Martello Tower and the White street Pier, wheelchair access to fishing bridges, and the need for spaces in the parking lot at the winn Dixie shopping center at Big pine Key to accommodate a van with a wheel chair lift.
