AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Report regarding application for TDC Bricks and Mortar Grant
through DAC V & DAC IV for improvements at the Murray E. Nelson Government & Cultural Center.
ITEM BACKGROUND: In the past, the County has successfully applied for Bricks & Mortar grants
from TDC for several facilities in a number of locations throughout the County; most recently for the
East & West Martello Towers. Improvements to the Murray E. Nelson Govt. Center, would increase
its usefulness and encourage and expand the potential uses of the auditorium by the community. At the
same time, a local upper Keys community group has organized, for the purpose of increasing usage of
the auditorium, a wide variety of cultural events.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: In March 2011 the Commission agreed to a pilot
program of reduced fees for use of the auditorium.
