Page, T.E. • • • BRIDGE I NS r-'ECT I ON REFOaT OF S UI.L ND KEY C E CANAL 31-U1D GE BRI.I)GE NU:13ER 90425'3 IN 1.101\iROT.1: COUNTY, FLORIDA ON CARIBBEAN D RIVE, S ND KEY AUGUST, 1979 0 GENERAL BRIDGE DESCRIPTION # 904250 This is a massive concrete arch bridge on Caribbean Drive approximately 150' south of SR 5 (MM 24.4). The total bridge length is 24' 2" with one span. The roadway is 22' 4" from curb to curb. On the west side, is a sidewalk 49" wide, 4" thick of which 40" is cantilever overlong. The curb height is 10" on west side and 11" on east side. East curb is 9 1/2" wide. There are no handrails or approach guardrails. A 6" waterline is attached to east side of bridge by two brackets bolted to bridge. Breast walls are integral with deck slab and wing walls. Wing walls are flared 8' 6" high, 7' 9" long with thickness of 10 ". BRIDGE INS PEC T ION REPORT CF ATSON AVENUE P, RID GE R RID GE NU1'.1:3ER 9024305 T.1.4 MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA ON WA TS 0 N AVENUE, BIG PINE KEY AUGUST , 1979 , GENERAL BRIDGE DESCRIPTION # 904305 This is a one span concrete bridge 2.1 miles north of SR 5 (MM 30.5) on Watson Avenue (Old 4A). The span is 28' long made up of seven slabs 48" wide for an overall deck width of 28'. The roadway width is 2o' 6" from curb to curb. Curb heigth is 12" with curbs on both sides 11" wide. Sidewalks on north side is 5' wide less width of handrail. Handrail posts are 9 1/2" x 11" by 3'6" high; with handrails 7" square at heights of 1' 6" and 2' 11" to the bottom respectively. Handrails are on both sides. The deck slabs are 12" thick precast concrete sitting on poured (breast wall) abutment with integral flared wing walls. Bridge sets on cap rock. Bridge deck is covered with approximately 2" asphalt sur- face. Flared wing walls extend for 15' 6" and taper to a heigth of 1 9". There are two 2" galvanized waterlines resting on two steel brackets attached to south side of slab. The span is 28' lon; made up of seven slabs, each 48" wide for a width of 28'. The curb to curb distance is 21'. Curb height is 14" with curbs on both sides 10" wide. Sidewalk on west side is 5' wide less width of handrail. Handrail posts are 9 1/2" by 11" by 3' high; with handrails 7" square at heights of 1' 6" and 2' 11" to the bottom respectively. Handrails are on both sides of bridge. The deck slabs are 12" thick precast concrete sitting on poured (breast wall) abutment with integral flared wing walls. The bridge sets on cap rock. The deck surface is of concrete with iron troughs between slabs. Flared wing walls e ; :tcnd for 12' 6" and taper to a height of 1' 9". The span is made of 8 slabs 4' wide, 15" thick for an overall width of 32'. The roadway width curb to curb is 20'. Concrete handrail posts are 12" square and 30" high with 4" x 6" handrails at 19" from the sidewalk to the base of the handrail. There are five handrail posts each side of bridge. Curbs are 11' high and 8" wide on both sides of bridge. The sidewalk width is 50" for both sides. An asphalt layerl /2" thick covers the deck surface and sidewalks. The typical span length is 49' 6" with the exception of the span over the fender system which is 60' long for a total length of 2240'. The roadway width curb -to -curb is 24' with 11" curbs and 4' sidewalks on both sides. The overall deck width is 34' with 38" cantilever sidewalls on both sides. Handrail posts are 12" square and 39" in height with two rails between posts. There are four scuppers on each side of each span. The poured -in -place deck has a concrete wearing surface with a slab thickness of 8" and sits on four 18" x 36" I -beams spaced 8' 8" on center with the exception of span 25, which has six prestressed beams. Piles are 20" square with bents 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 30, 34, 38 and 42 having five prestressed piles per bent. Bents 25 and 26 have seven prestressed piles per bent, with the remaining bents all having four piles per bent. Cap size is 3' 0" x 30' 2" long for all bents. A wooden pile fender system sits between bents 24 and 25 with standard U.S. Coast Guard navigational lighting. Standard D.O.T. guardrail is used on the approaches, with rail not attached to bridge and rail ends buried. A "No Littering" type sign is posted in both directions at the west approach.
