Josh Clearman, teacher at Key West High School was honored by the World Energy Engineering
Congress as the “International Renewable Energy Innovator of the Year.”

Mayor’s Proclamation
JOSH CLEARMAN DAY
October 19, 2011
WHEREAS,
Josh Clearman, the “Biodiesel Guy” at Key West High School was honored by
the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC), as the “International Renewable Energy
Innovator of the Year,” at their annual conference and international exposition on October 12-14,
2011; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Clearman has been a teacher at Key West High School since 2003; and
WHEREAS
, teachers work to open students' minds to ideas, knowledge and dreams; and fill
many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors; and
WHEREAS,
the distinction of “International Renewable Energy Innovator of the Year”
comes to Mr. Clearman due to his persistent vision of including alternative energy projects as
learning tools for present and future Key West High School students; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Clearman constructed an 80 gallon processor to convert waste grease into
Bio-diesel fuel in order to power a 1985 Mercedes in addition to securing over $500,000 in
funding and equipment for present and future scientists at Key West High School; and
WHEREAS
, at the Alternative Energy Center developed by Mr. Clearman, there are several
successful projects including, Bio-diesel manufacturing, wind turbines, and solar arrays; and
WHEREAS
, Mr. Clearman, like many of the members of the World Energy Engineering
Congress is following his passion to find solutions to world energy problems; and
WHEREAS
, we are proud to have Mr. Josh Clearman as a member of our community and a
teacher who will continue to influence students long after their school days are only memories;
NOW, THEREFORE,
be it resolved thatHeather Carruthers, Mayor of Monroe County,
proclaims October 19, 2011, as
JOSH CLEARMAN DAY
in Monroe County, Florida, and urges everyone to join Mr. Josh Clearman in doing their part in
finding and supporting solutions to the world energy problems.
