This item is a kick-off to the County's Worksite Wellness Program. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida
(BCBSF) provides this service free of charge as part of their current contract which became effective
in November of 2011.
The County Administrator has put together a Wellness Committee comprised of lower, middle and
upper keys employee representatives as well as a representative from each of the constitutional
offices. These employees met with (BCBSF) on May 3rd and will continue to be an important part of
this ongoing process as far as educating their fellow workers and bringing their input to future
committee meetings.
To kick off the process, we will be holding a health fair in the month of September. Employees will
complete a PHA (Personal Health Assessment) and complete biometric testing (blood glucose, blood
pressure, BMI, cholesterol, HDL). The biometric testing and PHA are very important tools which will
allow us to craft our Wellness Plan. Our ultimate goal is to create a culture that supports health and
wellness target programs and provide ongoing education and support to the employees. In addition,
by investing in a comprehensive wellness program medical costs statistically fall by an average of $3
to every $1 spent on employee wellness programs.
