A RESOLUTION BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WAIVING THE PROHIBITION
AGAINST ACOHOL CONSUMPTION AT THE PINES COUNTY
PARK IN SUPPORT OF THE KEY WEST ART AND HISTORICAL
SOCIETY FUNDRAISING EVENT ON OCTOBER 19, 2014.
WHEREAS, the Key West Art and Historical Society (hereafter
KWAHS) is a not -for -profit organization leasing and operating the Eat Martello Tower as
a museum; and
WHEREAS, under the terms of the lease the KWAHS is responsible for
maintenance of the East Martello Tower; and
WHEREAS, the East Martello Tower is on the U.S. National Register of
Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County finds that the preservation and maintenance
of the East Martello Tower is in the county's and the nation's best interest; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County finds that these interests have been well
served by the KWAHS; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County desires to support fundraising efforts put
forth by the KWAHS for purposes of maintaining the East Martello Tower, and
WHEREAS, the KWAHS is holding a fundraising event on October 19,
2014 known as the "Zombie Bike Ride"; and
WHEREAS, the KWAHS will have vendors on the property offering
alcohol for sale to bike ride participants; and
WHEREAS, the Pines County Park is adjacent to the East Martello
Tower and will also be used as a marshalling/staging area for the zombie bike ride; and
WHEREAS, the KWAHS has requested a waiver of the county's
prohibition against possessing alcohol in the Pines County Park; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County Code section 18-25(b)(2) authorizes the
Monroe County Board of County Commissioners to waive the prohibition upon a
resolution of the board;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the
Monroe County Board of County Commissioners finds that the Key West Art and
Historical Society is a nonprofit organization and that the Key West Art and Historical
Society is providing security guards in a number sufficient to preserve the public order
and has obtained liability insurance naming Monroe County as an additional insured, all
as required under M.C.C. sec, 18-25(b)(2) and hereby waives the prohibition against
alcohol possession at the Pines County Park as defined in M.C.C. sec. 18-25(a) on
October 19, 2014 from 12 noon until 8 p.m.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting held on the 17`h day of October, 2014.
