Approval of a Lease Agreement with the State of Florida
Department of Health, Monroe County Health Department to provide continued office space at the
Gato Building, 1100 Simonton Street, Key West, FL
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Since 2009, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) has been leasing
office space at the Gato Building for the purpose of delivering public health related education,
chronic diseases prevention, preparation for emergencies affecting public health maintenance of vital
statistics information and certifications, administrative support, delivery of clinical services and
environmental testing and inspection programs. In 2014, the environmental testing and inspection
programs offices were relocated to the DJJ Building on Stock Island to be closer to the building
department and better serve the residents and businesses requiring permits for wastewater

connections. Thereafter, the DOH Administrative staff was relocated from Gato Bldg. 1 Floor to

the 2 Floor offices previously occupied by the environmental testing staff. This was done because
the clinic, previously leased from Offices of the Northside, on Northside Drive, Key West, was not
renewed, and that clinic now occupies space previously occupied by the DOH administrative staff.
The lease has been satisfactory for both parties and Florida Department of Health is once again
requesting to lease space at no charge. We are adding room 1-184 of 79.8 square feet and removing
rooms 1-178, 1-179, 1-180 and 1-183 of 332.64 square feet from lease.
