Approval of resolution authorizing the Miami-Dade Metropolitan
Planning Organization (MPO) to use Monroe County's seal in its Strategic Miami Area Rapid
Transit (SMART) Plan video, which includes the Dade-Monroe Express bus service between Florida
City and the City of Marathon.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) recently
created the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Plan which identifies six Rapid Transit
Corridors including a network of Express Buses. One of those Express Buses operates from Florida
City to the City of Marathon within Monroe County. MPO contacted Monroe County and requested
the use of the Monroe County Seal in its SMART Plan video as part of MPOs outreach to residents
and visitors. All members of the BOCC were contacted via email on May 12, 2016 by Monroe
County staff requesting authorization for MPO to use the Monroe County seal in their SMART Plan
video. No objections were received by Monroe County staff and approval to use the Monroe County
seal was given to MPO on May 13, 2016.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDAAUTHORIZING THE MIAMI-DADE
METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
(MPO) TO USE MONROE COUNTY’S SEAL IN
ITS STRATEGIC MIAMI AREA RAPID TRANSIT
(SMART) PLAN VIDEO, WHICH INCLUDES
THE DADE-MONROE EXPRESS BUS SERVICE
BETWEEN FLORIDA CITY AND CITY OF
MARATHON
WHEREAS
, the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has
prioritized the growth and expansion of mass transit in order to address congestion, and
provide alternative transportation choices to residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS
, the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Plan identifies six
Rapid Transit Corridors including the Dade-Monroe Express bus service between Florida
City and the City of Marathon; and
WHEREAS
, the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has
requested the use of the Monroe County Seal and Logo in its SMART Plan video; and
WHEREAS
, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County must give
express approval for the use or display of the county seal pursuant to §165.043, Florida
Statues;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, THAT:
1.The Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County supports the Dade-
Monroe Express Transit Link and transportation alternatives and will
authorize the organization to use and display the Monroe County seal in its
video.
2.Monroe County is not responsible for errors or omissions contained in any of
the information published by the MPO, and makes no representations as to
the accuracy of the information.
3.This resolution is retroactively approved to May 13, 2016.
