AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Discussion and direction to staff regarding naming the Marathon
Customs Facility wing at the Marathon International Airport in honor of Dick Ramsay for his vision
and commitment in helping bring this project to fruition.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Marathon Customs Facility opened officially on April 20, 2016. The project was approved for
design RFP process in 2012. Construction began in August, 2014. Unfortunately, we lost Dick on
June 02, 2016, shortly after the facility became operational.
Dick Ramsay's vision and commitment to the project was total, seeing it as a major economic driver
for the Middle Keys community in years to come. He worked side by side with County
Commissioner Rice, first as Marathon Councilman, and finally as the Mayor of Marathon.
Mr. Ramsay, was a resident of Marathon since the 1970's, raising his family here. He was a leader,
and he will be missed.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
After two years of work with U.S. Customs and Border Protection on preliminary design and
approvals, on November 20, 2012, the BOCC approved the final design and RFP for the construction
of the Marathon Customs Facility.
July 16, 2014, the BOCC approved the award of construction bid to Pedro Falcon Electrical
Contractors, Inc.
August 2014, the BOCC approved the Memorandum of Agreement for a User Fee Airport Program
at Marathon International Airport.
