WHEREAS, the United States has a nationwide proclivity to demolish its historical
structures and replace them with parking lots and ugly boxes; and
WHEREAS, through the repair and renovation of historic properties both the
grace of the past and visible reminders of the nation's history are preserved for the
future; and
WHEREAS, the preservation of historic homes also helps to prevent suburban
sprawl and the consumption of farmland and wild areas for tract housing; and
WHEREAS, the repair and renovation of historic residences consumes less wood
than new construction thereby helping to preserve North American forests; and
WHEREAS, the repair and renovation of historic residences further contributes to
the revitalization of urban communities; and
WHEREAS, the preservation and renovation of historic residences also preserves
one of the USA's most valuable resources--the single family home; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
