AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval to increase parking fees for the public pay parking lot at
the Key West International Airport, increasing the daily maximum from $10.00 to $15.00, the first
hour to $3.00 (free for handicapped and terminal concession customers), lost ticket minimum to
daily maximum rate and the weekly maximum from $50.00 to $84.00. No change to the currently
monthly and annual rates or the free short term parking locations.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The airport pay parking lot rates were last adjusted by the BOCC on
September 1, 2009. The average daily maximum for comparable and competing airports which
includes Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Daytona Beach is $15.30. The airport proposes to increase the
daily maximum rate to $15.00 which (along with other adjustments) increases annual net revenue
flow from approximately $180,000.00/yr. to $350,000.00/yr. (an additional $170,000.00/yr.) (See
Exhibit A)
This increase to non-aeronautical revenue will continue to support the airports self-sufficient
financial operating budget, which is completely free from Monroe County ad-valorem taxes.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
On July 15, 2009 the BOCC approved a parking fee increase for the public parking lot at the Key
West International Airport.
