A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE DIANA MIRTA VALLADARES
WHEREAS, Diana Mirta Valladares, a well-loved native of Key West, passed away at her home
at the age of 92; and

Section 1. As a business woman on Duval Street in the early d~, ;Pmmlssica:rer
Wilhelmina Harvey recalls some of the outstanding business women of that er~ A'moQQ t~e
women were four Lacedonia women (Lucille "Bebe" Sanchez, Jenny Albury, Mirta Valladares and
Marguerite Mitchell) who later married and became more famous.
Section 2. Mrs. Sanchez who, with her husband, operated the Coffee Mills, passed away
in Key West earlier this year.
Section 3. Mrs, Albury and her husband Glenn operated the White Steamship Line which
sailed from Tampa. Key West, Miami. Jacksonville, New York and the Caribbean. She too passed
away earlier this year.
Section 4. Mrs. Valladares operated, with her husband Leonte a bookstore known as
Valladares & Sons, which is still in operation today. She passed away on July 8, 1998.
Section 5. Mrs. Mitchell is the past owner of the Hibiscus Motel and other properties while
her husband was one of the most famous of local photographers.
In passing. Commissioner Harvey said that knowing these women constituted being touched
by angels.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
regular meeting of said Board held on the 12tl(jay of August, 1998.
