AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Presentation by John Padget and BOCC discussion and direction
on potential acceptance and placement of sculpture from the Art Students League in New York
(ASLNY) City.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The New York City Art Students League created eight (8) sculptures that were displayed in an
outdoor park venue along Riverside Drive in Manhattan. The League is looking for a permanent
home for the works, and John Padget and Jacob Dekker have offered to pay for the disassembly,
transport, and retrofitting (from carbon steel to stainless steel) of all sculptures if sited in the Keys
(with the majority in Key West). The cost estimate for this proposal is $79,000.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Pursuant to its policy for a gift or loan of public art to the
County, the Art in Public Places Committee will need to make a recommendation for disposition of
the offer to the BOCC for a final decision. The AIPP committee has called a special meeting for
February 8, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. to consider this gift pursuant to its policy.
