Item Background: This purchase is proposed to protect natural resources and property rights on
lands identified for public acquisition on the County's Conservation and Natural Areas map. The
subject property is Lot 10 of the unrecorded plat of Tropic Island Ranchettes, located near the rear of
the flea market site on Big Pine Key. The parcel is zoned Suburban Commercial (SC) and consists of
1.02 acres of primarily pinel and vegetation with some disturbed areas.
Following an initial treatment for invasive exotic vegetation, the land stewardship needs for this property
are anticipated to be low.
The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used for this transaction. The agenda packet
spreadsheet lists the legal description, purchase price, and estimated closing costs.
Advisory Committee Action: On November 24, 2003 the Advisory Committee voted 4/0 to approve
purchasing the property.
Previous Governing Board Action: On August 20, 2003, sitting as the BOCC, the Board adopted the
Conservation and Natural Areas Map.
