AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval of Resolution delineating the boundaries of the five County Commission districts.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
At the BOCC meeting in August, the Revised Redistricting Plan was approved. Staff was directed to
advertise the redistricting changes per Florida State Statute 124.02 in the local newspapers and report
back to the BOCC for their fInal approval in January. No adverse comments were received concerning
the advertised Redistricting Plan .

A RESOLUnON OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, FIXING AND DEUNEAnNG THE
BOUNDARIES OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' DISTRICTS AND
PROVIDING FOR THE NUMBERING OF THE DISTRICTS ALL OF WHICH
ARE IN MONROE COUNTY. FLORIDA
WHEREAS, it Is necessary and required by law to change the present boundaries of County
Commissioners' Districts in Monroe County, Florida, as per the requirements of Article 8, Subsection
l(e), of the Constitution of the State of Rorida, and Florida Statutes Chapter 124; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA, that the County Commissioners' Districts in Monroe County, Florida, shall be established
as follows and shall be designated numerically as Is stated hereinafter:
Section 1. District No. 3 of the Monroe County Commission shall comprise a portion of the City of
Key West, and an unincorporated area of Monroe County, and shall be more particularly described as follows:
That area within the City of Key West more particularly described as follows:
Commencing on the centerline of White Street projected into the Atlantic Ocean running in a
northerly direction to the pOint where it intersects with the centerline of Atlantic Boulevard
thence running easterly along the centerline of Atlantic Boulevard to a point where it
intersects with the centerline of George Street thence running northerly along the centerline
of George Street to a point where it intersects with the centerline of Flagler Avenue thence
running generally easterly along the centerline of Flagler Avenue to the point where it
intersects with the centerline of 14th Street thence running northerly along the centerline of
14th Street prOjected to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico thence running generally westerly
along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico to the pOint where it intersects with a line projected
north from the centerline of Duval Street thence running generally southerly along the
shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico to the point where the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean
commences thence running generally easterly along the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean to the
point of beginning.
Also that portion of the territory of Monroe County more particularly known as the Dry
Tortugas.
Section 2. District No.1 of the Monroe County Commission shall comprise a portion of
the City of Key West, and an unincorporated area of Monroe County, and shall be more particularly
described as follows:
That area within the City of Key West more particularly described as follows:
Commencing on the centerline of White Street projected into the Atlantic Ocean running In a
northerly direction to the pOint where it intersects with the centerline of Atlantic Boulevard
thence running easterly along the centerline of Atlantic Boulevard to a pOint where it
intersects with the centerline of George Street thence running northerly along the centerline
of George Street to a point where it intersects with the centerline of Ragler Avenue thence
running generally easterly along the centerline of Ragler Avenue to the point where it
intersects with the centerline of 14th Street thence running northerly along the centerline of
14th Street projected to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico thence running generally easterly
along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico to the point where the shoreline of the Cow Key
channel commences thence runni/')g generally southerly along the shoreline of the Cow Key

channel to the point where the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean commences thence running
generally westerly along the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean to the point of beginning.
Also that portion of the territory of Monroe County not Included in District No. 3 lying west of
the east end of Shark Key, U.S. Highway No.1.
Section 3. DIstrict No. 2 of the Monroe County Commission shall comprise a portion of
the City of Marathon and an unincorporated area of Monroe County, and shall be more particularly
described as follows:
All of the territory of Monroe County lying easterly from the east end of Shark Key, U.S.
Highway No.1, to the west end of Knight Key, U.S. Highway No.1.
Also that portion of the City of Marathon lying east from the west end of Knight Key, U.S.
Highway No.1, to a pOint commencing on the centerline of the 63rd Court projected to the
waters of the Gulf of Mexico thence southerly along said projected centerline to where it
intersects with the centerline of U.S. Highway No.1, thence running in a generally westerly
direction along the centerline of U.S. Highway No. 1 to where it intersects with the centerline
of 30th Street thence running In a generally southerly direction along the centerline of 30th
Street projected to the waters of Boot Key Harbor thence in a westerly direction along the
shoreline of Boot Key Harbor to a pOint where it Intersects with the centerline of the Boot Key
Bridge thence running southerly along the centerline of the Boot Key Bridge to a pOint where
it intersects with the shoreline of Boot Key Harbor thence running in a generally easterly
dIrectIon along the shoreline of Boot Key to a line projected from the centerline of Sisters
Creek thence along saId projected centerline In a generally southerly direction to the waters
of the Atlantic Ocean thence running generally easterly along the shoreline of the Atlantic
Ocean to the west end of Knight Key, U.S. Highway No.!.
Section 4. District No. 4 of the Monroe County Commission shall comprise a portion of
the City of Marathon, the City of Key Colony Beach, the City of Layton, a portion of the Village of
ISlamorada, and an unincorporated area of Monroe County, and shall be more particularly described
as follows:
That portion of the City of Marathon commencing on the centerline of the 63rd Court projected
to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico thence running southerly along said projected line to
where it intersects with the centerline of U.S. Highway No.1, thence running in a generally
westerly direction along the centerline of U.S. Highway No. 1 to where it intersects with the
centerline of 30th Street thence running in a generally southerly direction along the centerline
of 30th Street projected to the waters of Boot Key Harbor thence running in a westerly
dIrection along the shoreline of Boot Key Harbor to a point where it intersects with the
centerlIne of the Boot Key Bridge thence running southerly along the centerline of the Boot
Key Bridge to, a pOint where It Intersects with the shoreline of Boot Key thence running in a
generally easterly direction along the shoreline of Boot Key to the point where the shoreline
of the Sister Creek channel commences thence running generally southerly along the Sister
Creek shoreline to the waters of the Atlantic Ocean thence running generally easterly along
the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean to inciude all of the City of Key Colony Beach and
continuing to the east end of Grassy Key U. S. Highway No. 1 thence running westerly from
the east end of Grassy Key U.S. Highway No.1 along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico to
that pOint where it intersects with the centerline of 63rd Court projected into the Gulf of
Mexico.
Also that area of Monroe County commencing at the east end of Grassy key U.S. Highway
NO.1 extending easterly to the west end of lower Matecumbe U.S. Highway No. 1., Including
all of the City of Layton.
Also that portion of the Village of Islamorada commencing at the west end of Lower
Matecumbe U.S. Highway No. 1 running In a generally easterly direction along the shoreline
of the Atlantic Ocean to a point where the Tavernier Creek channel commences thence
running generally northerly along the shoreline of the Tavernier Creek channel to the paint
where it intersects with the centerline of U.S. Highway No. 1 thence running in a generally

SectIon 5. District No.5 of Monroe County Commission shall comprise a portion of the
Village of Islamorada and an unincorporated area of Monroe County and shall be more particularly
described as follows:
All of the territory of Monroe County lying from Tavernier Creek east to the County line and
Garden Cove south to the Atlantic Ocean plus the area known as the Aorida mainland and
Everglades.
Also that portion of the Village of Islamorada commencing on the centerline of Plantation
Avenue projected Into the Gulf of Mexico running easterly along the centerline of Plantation
Avenue to a point where it intersects with the centerline of U.S. Highway No. 1 thence
running In a generally easterly direction along the centerline of U.S. Highway No. 1 to where
the shoreline of the Tavernier Creek channel commences thence running generally northerly
along the shoreline of the Tavernier Creek shoreline to the pOint where the shoreline of the
Gulf of Mexico commences thence running generally westerly along the shoreline of the Gulf
of Mexico to the point of beginning.
Section 6. This Resolution shall be enterecJ Into the minutes of the Board of County
Commissioners and, as per Sec. 124.02, Fla. Stat., (2001), published once each week for two
consecutive weeks in a newspaper published In Monroe County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at
a regular meeting of said Board held on the day of January, 2003.
