Currently, there is only one trained nurse examiner in the county who can
perform examinations necessary in sexual assault cases. The SANE/SART training is
expected to quadruple the number of nurses specially trained to provide this service.
I certify that this request complies with the provisions of S932. 7055, Fla. Stat.

RE: Request for State Forfeiture Money - SANE Training
Sheriff Roth,
As the Co-Chair of the Poinciana Advocacy Center, I have been working with
many local partners in coordinating a SANE/SART (Sex Assault Nurse
Examiner/Sex Assault Response Team) training for Monroe County
professionals.
The purpose of the training is to improve law enforcement's response to victims
of sexual violence. As a result of undergoing this training we hope to at least
quadruple the number of nurse examiners available to conduct forensic exams of
these victims in Monroe County. The training is scheduled for August 20 -24,
2007 and will be held at the Florida Keys Community College, Public Safety
Building.
As a means to increase the attendance at this training we are not charging any
tuition for local professionals to attend. We have attempted to reduce our costs.
To that end we have commitments from many local professionals to participate
as instructors at no cost. However, as you can imagine we will still have
expenses.
I am requesting money from the state forfeiture fund for expenses associated
with this training. We anticipate needing 15 hotel nights at $109.00 each for a
total of$1635.00 for out of town presenters. We anticipate travel costs for three
presenters from Orlando for an approximate total of $800.00 and travel for one
presenter from Tampa for an approximate cost of $500.00. Additionally, we
expect to incur $100.00 as costs for training materials.

I know that you and your agency have been great supporters of the Poinciana Advocacy Center in the past.
This upcoming training puts us one step closer to truly accommodating the needs of victims in our community.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please contact me if you have any questions or need further
information.
Sincerely,
