ITEM BACKGROUND: Habitat for Humanity has constructed a low income 18 unit residential
housing development in the Porpoise Point subdivision located at 1121 Overseas Highway, Big
Coppitt Key, and desires to honor one of it's early supporters by naming the privately owned service
road within the development as "Opal Drive."

A RESOLUTION BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD
OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SUPPORTING
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY'S EFFORT TO HONOR AN
EARL Y SUPORTER BY RECOGNIZING THE NAMING
OF A PRIVATE ROAD IN THE SUPPORTER'S HONOR
AND DIRECTING STAFF TO REVISE THE COUNTY'S
GIS DATABASE ACCORDINGLY.
WHEREAS, Habitat For Humanity is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to
the construction, and repair of, affordable low income housing in Monroe County; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County has historically had a critical need for affordable
low income housing; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County finds that interest of the County's citizens have
been well served by Habitat For Humanity; and
WHEREAS, Habitat For Humanity has constructed a low income 18 unit
residential housing development in the Porpoise Point subdivision of Big Coppitt Key at
r.e. # 00155820-000000; and
WHEREAS, all 18 units are serviced by an internal service road owned by
Habitat For Humanity as shown in the attached exhibit A; and
WHEREAS, Habitat For Humanity does not desire to deed the service road to the
County and shall be responsible for maintaining the road, and
WHEREAS, Habitat For Humanity desires to honor one of its early supporters by
naming the privately owned service road within the development in honor of the
supporter; and
WHEREAS, the name chosen for the service road is "Opal Drive", and
WHEREAS, the County maintained GIS database is the physical address
resource used by the post office and the County's emergency services; and
WHEREAS, the Habitat For Humanity development abuts the Overseas Highway
and has been assigned a physical address of 1121 Overseas Highway; and
WHEREAS, Habitat For Humanity desires that the physical address to the
development be revised to use Opal Drive as the physical address for the 18 unit
development in honor of it's early supporter; and
WHEREAS, Florida Statute 336.05 authorizes the Monroe County Board of
County Commissioners to name streets and roads;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Monroe County
Board of County Commissioners shall hereby recognize Opal Drive as the physical
address for the 18 unit Habitat for Humanity development situated at r.e. # 00155820-
000000 and directs staff to revise the County's G.I.S. database accordingly.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting held on the 17th day of February, 2010.
