AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Discussion & direction re oaths of office for advisory board members.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
In late 2006, in conformity with state statute, a directive was sent out for all public officers receiving
compensation, including advisory board members receiving travel reimbursements, and all County
employees to sign an oath or affirmation to uphold the State and federal constitutions. It has been
suggested that oaths for advisory board members should be expanded to include that they will comply
with ethics provisions in state statute or county ordinance. The advantage is that it would put advisory
board members on notice of requirements that they might not be made aware of. Alternatively, a policy
could be instituted that every advisory board member has to go to (an) ethics/sunshine class(es), which
could be developed by the County Attorney's Office.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
Several discussions re ethics, directions for several ethics ordinances to be drafted, but no action. Two
related ordinances are scheduled to request public hearing to be advertised and for public hearing.
