AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval of the minutes of a public meeting held on May 16, 2017
between Mayor Neugent, Mayor Pro Tem Rice, and others to discuss transportation issues with
Miami -Dade County officials.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Sunshine Law requires that any meeting between two or more
members of the commission during which matters which are reasonably foreseeable to come before
the Board for a vote must be done in an open location, where reasonable public notice of the date
time, and location has been given, and where minutes are kept. On May 16, 2017, Mayor Neugent,
Mayor Pro Tem Rice, met at the Marathon Government Center with staff from the county and other
local governments including staff from Miami -Dade County who appeared by telephone to discuss
transportation issues affecting both counties.
Staff from the County Attorney's Office took the minutes of that meeting, which are attached for
approval by the Board.

Summarization
Mayor Neugent made opening comments regarding bus trips between Miami -Dade
County and Monroe County for employees who reside in Miami -Dade but work in
Monroe County. Ms. Bravo suggested that the County to apply to FDOT for a grant to
expand service of the bus with Miami -Dade County including perhaps an expansion
below 7 mile bridge, perhaps run locally. Mayor Neugent indicated that we need to
partner with cities and on employment centers. Mayor Pro Tern Rice indicated that we
need to look at all issues, including possibly high speed ferries in the long run. Ed
Carson, M -D Grants Manager, FDOT 60 -75% funding for Monroe express. 4 -5 buses
running daily at $250 -$350k paid for enhanced services. Ms. Bravo stated route 301
has 7 buses into Marathon. Route 302 has 1 bus to Ocean Reef Club. Mayor Neugent
thanked the participants for their input and foresees long term solutions if Miami -Dade
and Monroe County work together.
