ITEM BACKGROUND: PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: TOTAL COST: INDIRECT COST: DIFFERENTIAL OF LOCAL PREFERENCE: COST TO COUNTY: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes _ No BUDGETED: Yes No SOURCE OF FUNDS: AMOUNT PER MONTH APPROVED BY: County Atty OMB/Purchasing Risk Management DOCUMENTATION: Included X Not Required DISPOSITION: Revised 7/09 AGENDA ITEM # Year National Bicycle Month WHEREAS, National Bicycle Month is celebrated each May throughout the United States to encourage the use of bicycles and to create awareness for bicycle safety; and WHEREAS, Monroe County has adopted Comprehensive flan policies for a multi -modal transportation system, including bicycles; and WHEREAS, Monroe County is improving bicycle safety through the construction of the CR 905 bike lanes, the Key Largo Bayside Shared Use Path, and the addition of designated bike lanes on US 1; and WHEREAS, Monroe County supports the efforts of Florida's state agencies to complete the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, which had almost 2 million trail users in 2013, and is one of only seven state -designated trails in Florida's Greenways and Trails System; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sylvia J. Murphy, Mayor of Monroe County, Florida, do hereby encourage Florida Keys residents and visitors to park their cars and ride a bike to work, school, play or shopping this May in celebration of National Bike Month.
