S. Board on Geographic Names is responsible by law for standardizing geographic names for use by the departments and agencies of the Federal government. The Board has received a proposal to name a currently unnamed private island on the northeastern end of Key Largo as E2Lq Key. He has also placed a sign on the island calling it "Rose Key," In the proposal, he states that the new name would alleviate confusion among emergency responders and boaters who might confuse the island with nearby Linderman Key, the name of which is sometimes used collectively to refer to both the larger and smaller unnamed island.
