ITEM BACKGROUND: The Canal #83 Combined Organic Removal and Backfilling project was the first combination muck removal and backfilling project to be conducted. It was designed for muck removal to depths greater than - 6 feet Mean Low Water with subsequent backfilling. Work was completed in July, 2017, with the exception of the installation of the air curtain. The air curtain was put on hold until the results of the new canal skimming solicitation are known. This change order provides a 1 year extension to the contract to reserve the County's option to install the air curtain at a later time. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: 3/23/16: Approval to advertise a Request for Proposals for completing a combination Organic Removal and Backfilling Canal Restoration Demonstration Project in Canal #84 Rock Harbor, Monroe County, Florida. [Note: C83 was subsequently selected once it was determined that no volunteered access lots were available on C84] 09/21/16: Approval to Negotiate with the 3 vendors in rank order 11/22/16: Authorize entering into a contract with Adventure Environmental, Inc. for $1,524,040 for the C83 canal restoration project in Key Largo, which includes muck removal, backfilling, and air curtain installation.
