December 13, 2017
Agenda Item Number: D.15
Agenda Item Summary #3699
BULK ITEM: No DEPARTMENT: County Administrator
TIME APPROXIMATE: STAFF CONTACT: Roman Gastesi (305) 292 -4441
11:00 A.M.
AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Discussion and direction regarding temporary relocation of
Fishermen's Hospital to the Marathon Airport.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Hurricane Irma caused extensive damage to Fisherman's Hospital in
Marathon. Baptist Health South Florida, which operates Fisherman's Hospital, has asked if the
County would agree to use of the Marathon Airport as a temporary site to relocate the hospital so it
can repair the existing facility.
Currently, Fisherman's Hospital is using a temporary medical facility in its parking lot due to storm
damage to the permanent building. Repairs and renovations to the permanent building would require
use of the entire site for staging and construction management.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: 11/14/17, the BOCC directed staff to report back
with more information on the proposed use of the Marathon Airport as a temporary site for use by
Fisherman's Hospital while the permanent facility is being repaired.
