NARRATIVE
MARK THOMPSON
20 YEARS OF SERVICE
I am pleased to announce that Battalion Chief Mark Thompson (BC Thompson) has
completed 20 years of service with the Monroe County Fire Rescue Department. We are
extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring employee working for our
department. BC Thompson started his fire service career with the Monroe County Fire
Rescue Department as a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician on January 22,
1996.
BC Thompson has worked his way through our system to his current rank of Battalion
Chief/Paramedic which he was promoted into on March 16, 2009. He is one of our
operational shift commanders, working the 24/48 hour shift schedule with direct
responsibility for up to 32 field personnel and 10 stations from Tavernier to Stock
Island, including Trauma Star. BC Thompson is very active with promoting and
improving Monroe County Fire Rescue’s core objectives and service delivery to all the
residents and visitors of Monroe County. In addition to those initiatives, he is very
involved with the integration of many new software programs to help manage and
improve our records management system. He has taken the lead role in implementing
our newest software, FireRMS, working with multiple external agencies to automate the
initial dispatch information from MCSO’s live communications database to ensure our
department has the most accurate and timely incident information available.
BC Thompson holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science; is a state certified Fire
Inspector, and currently holds Fire Officer II certification. We are all very proud of
BC Thompson’s many outstanding accomplishments and we appreciate the many years
of service he has given to the residents and visitors of Monroe County.
