AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval to extend and amend the agreement with Sweetwater
Environmental, Inc. for the transfer, storage, treatment, transportation, and disposal of
sludge/septage generated within Monroe County. If the extension is approved, this agreement will
expire June 30, 2018.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Monroe County entered into the contract with Sweetwater
Environmental, Inc., in 2004. Due to the changes in County policies and centralized sewer system
decreased from approximately 500,000 gallons to approximately 300,000 gallons. The County
currently pays Sweetwater twenty cents ($.20) per gallon for the haul out, and charges contractors
who bring in the material twenty-two cents ($.22) per gallon. Sweetwater has requested its first rate
increase in twelve years, increasing the rate to twenty six cents ($.26) per gallon which in turn
increases the rate the County charges contractors that bring in material to twenty eight cents, ($.28)
per gallon. Though the flow rate has decreased and the revenue gained is minimal, the County still
needs to maintain services until all centralized sewer systems in Monroe County are completed and
properties are connected and thus is requesting to extend this Agreement for another 2 years. This
contract also allows for a monthly maintenance fee, but it is being reduced from $1800.00 to $1,200
per month.

agreement 6/17/09. Entered into a second renewal agreement on 5/21/ 2014
