AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval of First Addendum to the Employment Agreement with
County Attorney Robert Shillinger.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The County Attorney's Employment Agreement is scheduled to expire
on October 31, 2016. The proposed First Addendum to that agreement would change the expiration
date to December 31, 2020. No other changes to the existing contract are proposed.
One of the duties of the County Attorney is to serve as counsel to the Canvassing Board. Moving
the expiration date of the County Attorney's contract from a week prior to election day until seven
weeks after the 2020 general election allows for continuity of service during that election cycle and
would permit the commissioners elected during the 2020 election cycle to vote on any further
extensions.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
On 9/21/12, the Board entered into an employment
agreement with the County Attorney, which took effect on 11/1/12.
