A Public Hearing to amend Section 19-5 of the Monroe County
Code to prohibit fishing from the Sugarloaf Blvd. Bridge (CR939 (Sugarloaf Blvd.) Monroe County
Bridge #904153 over unnamed channel).
ITEM BACKGROUND:
A request for No Fishing signs was made to staff at a recent Sugarloaf
Property Owners Association meeting based on residents observing traffic safety issues when people
are fishing from the bridge.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
Monroe County BOCC approved Ordinance 034-1997 on September 17, 1997 which prohibits
fishing from the Tom's Harbor Channel Bridge on Duck Key for traffic and human safety. Monroe
County BOCC gave approval to advertise public hearing to amend Section 19-5 of the Monroe
County Code to prohibit fishing from the Sugarloaf Blvd. Bridge on May 18, 2016.
