Senior Administrator Monroe County Solid Waste Management Public Works Division Historic Gato Building 1100 Simonton St., Rm 2-231 Key West, FI 33040 From: Jerry 5ansom, Executive Director OFF li Date: May 7, 2015 Subiect: FWC Stone Crab and Scinv Lobster Derelict Trap Retrieval Program The Organized Fishermen of Florida would like to request the Monroe Board of County Commissioners to again this year grant a reduction in tipping fees to those Keys fishermen who participate in the FWC Trap Retrieval Program. For a number of vears we worked closely with Ms.. Washington to coordinate the disposal of this trap debris in the most expeditious and beneficial manner for the County, environment and the fishing community. OFF greatly appreciated the BOCC's approval last year of the reduced rate as it allowed us to pay the fishermen who participated in the program more than we would have been able to if we had to pay the full amount for the tipping fees out of the programmatic funds. This year the FWC will again be conducting the trap retrieval program in June and July and we would greatly appreciate the reduced rate of $89 per ton for lobster and stone crab trap debris disposal. Approval of this reduced rate will allow us to pay the fishermen who participate in this year's Program $2.50 more per trap if they take their trap debris directly to the appropriate transfer stations. We hope you will support this request as this is a vital and important program for the fishermen of Monroe County.
