Approval of Amendment No. 2 to Contract between Earthbalance
Corporation and Monroe County, extending the existing contract to May 12, 2017, in an amount of
$85,000 ($70,00 grant funded and $15,000 County Restoration Funds), for invasive exotic plan
removal from County and Land Authority owned parcels
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Board approved a contract with Earthbalance Corporation for the
removal of invasive exotic plant species from Monroe County conservation lands on December 10,
2014. The work under the original contract was completed in May 2015. The contract provides for
a total of two extensions after the expiration date based on the availability of additional funding from
the State. The Board approved Contract Amendment No. 1 on November 17, 2015 and the work
under that amendment was completed in May 2016. The County has recently received additional
funds in the amount of $70,000 from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
(FWC) for this purpose. The remaining $15,000 will be paid out of Fund 160 (Monroe County
Environmental Land Management and Restoration Fund). This is the second of two potential
extensions allowed for under the existing contract.
Work completed pursuant to this contract is for public conservation lands located throughout the
Florida Keys either owned or managed by Monroe County. Monroe County owns approximately
2,000 acres of scattered conservation lands throughout the Florida Keys.
