INDIRECT COST: BUDGETED: Yes No DIFFERENTIAL OF LOCAL PREFERENCE: COST TO COUNTY: SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes _ No AMOUNT PER MONTH Year APPROVED BY: County Atty OMB /Purchasing Risk Management _ DOCUMENTATION: Included x Not Required DISPOSITION: AGENDA ITEM # Revised 7/09 WHEREAS, for the past several years the National Coalition for the Homeless and National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness have sponsored National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week; and WHEREAS, the purpose of this proclamation is to educate the public about the many reasons people are hungry and homeless including the shortage of affordable housing in Monroe County for very low income residents; and to encourage support for homeless assistance service providers as well as community service opportunities for students and school service organizations; and WHEREAS, there are many dedicated and effective organizations, including dozens of not - for - profit and public agency members of the Monroe County Homeless Services Continuum -of -Care that are committed to sheltering and providing supportive services as well as meals and food supplies to people experiencing hunger and homelessness; and WHEREAS, the theme of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week 2013 is "Resolve to Fight Poverty," and WHEREAS, the County Commission recognizes that hunger and homelessness continues to be a serious problem for many individuals and families in the Florida Keys; and WHEREAS, the intent of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is consistent with the activities of the Monroe County Homeless Services Continuum -of- Care; NOW, THEREFORE, I, George R. Neugent, Mayor of Monroe County do hereby proclaim November 16 -24, 2013 as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in Monroe County, Florida. We would like to urge all citizens, residents and visitors of the Florida Keys to recognize that many people do not have adequate food and housing and need support from citizens, and private /public agencies and nonprofit organizations.
