Agenda Item Number: D.6

AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to waive rent and utilities fees in the amount of
$15,435.48 for tenants of the Marathon Storage Hangars (Marathon Flying Club, Inc., Dr. Steve
Strobbe, and Robert Carew) from September 1, 2017 through January 21, 2018, due to the inability
to occupy the facility after Hurricane Irma. The county determined that the hangar doors were unsafe
for use and denied access to the tenants until the doors were repaired.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Marathon Storage Hangars were constructed in 2016 -2017 by
Marathon Airport, and the Certificate of Occupancy was obtained on September 1, 2017. All three
tenants of the facility were notified of occupancy and rent fees on this date. However, the facility
was never occupied due to the evacuation before Hurricane Irma. The storm caused extensive
damage to the facility, and the hangar doors were determined to be unsafe for use after a
comprehensive inspection was conducted. Hangar door repairs were completed and the facility was
made safe for occupancy on January 21, 2018.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
June 19, 2013 — Lease with Marathon Flying Club, Inc. buying out their previous lease of 9 shade

ready for occupancy.

the intent of the Airport to construct a new 11 hangar facility. Dr. Strobbe would become a lessee of
one of the new hangars when the Airport notified them that the facility was ready for occupancy.
July 17, 2013 — Lease with Robert Carew, buying out his previous lease of 1 shade hangar, with the
intent of the Airport to construct a new 11 hangar facility. Mr. Carew would become a lessee of one
