Good deeds need to be recognized 1 am sending this letter to thank and commend Antonio Hernandez for returning my wallet not once but twice. Antonio is an employee of Monroe County Public Works Department, and how lucky they are to have him. Mr. Hernandez has been my hero on two occasions when I l lost my wallet in the Publix parking lot. The first time I dropped my wallet it was maybe a year ago. I was not even aware that 1 had lost it. Mr. Hernandez found the wallet and brought it straight to my home, arriving as I was putting groceries away. He would not accept a monetary reward but settled for a cigar from my husband. I don't think at that time I gave much thought to the good deed that was done. 1 believe what goes around comes around, and I have returned a wallet to a stranger's home. I considered that deed full circle. But when it happens twice and the same person returns the wallet, there's some other lesson here, besides that I should stop wearing pants with holes in them. This time when my wallet was lost 1 knew about it and was in full panic for about 30 minutes, because the next day I was to traveling out of town for my job. I needed everything in my wallet to travel. I back -tracked my steps through the store, talked to the employees to see if my wallet may have been returned, but no luck. I left the store in defeat and headed back to my car. A man approached, and 1 recognized him but I was not sure from where. It was him with a big smile, bright eyes and he said, "I never forget a face or an address," and laughs. If asked why I love the Keys, I have always stated it's the folks that live here. The hard- working folks who go to work every day making a difference. Antonio Hernandez made a choice that set an example and inspires others to do the same. Bless you and thank you, Antonio Hernandez — lesson learned. I have just returned home, and as I awoke this Monday morning to my dogs barking furiously I looked out my window only to see a man jump out of his truck caring a Christmas package. He dropped it on my steps and ran back to his truck. The name on the package was Antonio Hernandez. I wasn't going to wait for Christmas to open this so I ripped it open. Inside the box was a wallet with bells on it. What a laugh I had this morning, and if I ever drop this wallet, I should hear it fall to the ground. During this holiday season remember the Mr. Hernandezes of the world. They are out there working every day doing the right thing and passing it on. Feliz Navidad, Mr. Hernandez, and thank you.
