TOTAL COST: INDIRECT COST: BUDGETED: Yes No DIFFERENTIAL OF LOCAL PREFERENCE: COST TO COUNTY: SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTH Year APPROVED BY: County Atty _ OMB/Purchasing Risk Management DOCUMENTATION: Included Not Required DISPOSITION: Revised 7/09 AGENDA ITEM # Recognizing the Month of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month WHEREAS, motorcycles are increasingly used as a regular means of transportation, and WHEREAS, the motorcycle is an energy -efficient vehicles that reduces fuel consumption, traffic and parking congestion, and WHEREAS, the motorcycle is an important form of transportation, commuting, touring and recreation; and WHEREAS, with motorcycle ownership in Florida has exceeded 750,000 registered motorcycles, the Governor of the State of Florida and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation have traditionally named May as 'Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month', and WHEREAS, states and motorcycle organizations across this country will be conducting a variety of activities to promote the importance of motorists awareness and safety sharing the road with motorcycles, and WHEREAS, locally, ABATE of Florida, Inc. Southernmost chapter is highly involved in motorcycle safety through the Rider and Motorists Education Programs which includes the 'Motorcycle Safety Awareness Program' to educate the non -riding public how to safely share the road with motorcycles; and \ WHEREAS, as a certified motorcycle safety course is now being offered in Monroe County, and WHEREAS, ABATE of Florida, Inc. promotes friendship and safety among all motorcyclists using their motto of 'American Bikers Aiming Towards Education' and 'Zero Accidents, Zero Deaths', and WHEREAS, The County of Monroe, Florida, wishes to join in their public safety campaign in an effort to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. Now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the County of Monroe, Florida, in meeting assembled on this 20th day of May, 2015 declared. 'Month of MAY AS MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARNESS MONTH' In Monroe County, Florida, and urge its citizens to be more aware of motorcycles on our roads and highways and for all motorcyclists to take advantage of motorcycle safety programs throughout the year.
